Courses and Main Concentration

From 1993 to 1996, I studied in the Architecture Department, Tianjin University as a graduate student in Architectural Science and Technology. The main courses were linear algebra, probabilistic method, computer principle, architectural physics (building lighting, acoustics and thermal performance). My primary concentration was CAD in architectural lighting. My degree thesis was Lighting CAD and Visualization. The results of the research were reported in the conference of Lighting Society of China, 1995.

Master Degree Thesis 1996

The thesis title is Lighting CAD and Visualization. It develops a method and a CAD program to help the designers in the process of lighting design. In a Windows 3.1 interface, according to certain light sources and illumination distribution curves, the program can help designers to select and replace light sources easily and calculate the average illumination by using the parameters of the room and the lights. The program also can calculate the direct illumination of any point on any plane based on the 3D model, which is also used to render illuminating images. The calculation is done by AutoLISP in the 3D AutoCAD environment. The software 3D Studio is used as a rendering tool, whose result is improved to a more accurate illuminating image by using an illuminating image filter. The illuminating image filter are made based on the distribution curves. The thesis provides a detailed explanation about the theoretical basis and the simulating method.
